The Reveal
Before I get to the main course, a few appetizers:
1. We recently came into some of the original pressing of We Are Connected (the Trip 'n Spin release, mastered by George Horn and played by John Digweed). The Dorigen repress wasn't bad but the original is definitely superior sounding. We thought they were lost to time except for the few in our studio, but this new box was recently acquired and we'll be giving first dibs to local shops at a reasonable price. So look out for that if you've been searching for a copy ...
2. Re: Qoöl Saturdays, we had our last party at the DNA Lounge. It went great, with Brownboy (Reid Oda) stealing the show. We're moving QSat to Minna, 1st Saturdays (which will bump Loöq Hard into the wild [ie one-off/warehouse land], thus the BANNED, in case you were wondering) and starting a new idea called ECONOCLUBBING. In other words, Qoöl Saturdays will cost only FIVE BUCKS. Here's a quote from the press release we're sending out today:
To those who ask, "How can you manage to only charge $5 for a night of clubbing and still not lose money," the response from Econoclubbing promoters Jondi & Spesh is this: "Who says we're not losing money! The secret to our high value club nights is basically that we don't have the best business minds in the world. Of course we don't want to lose money but what we really want is to provide top notch world quality clubbing for people who love music and dancing, at a reasonable price."
Part of the theory, they add, is that “People have been needing something like this for quite some time. It’s why you don’t see enough students in the big clubs. It’s also why a lot of San Francisco’s most creative people have been throwing parties in their own houses instead of gracing the larger parties with the kink of energy and fresh thinking that only they can provide.”
The word "kink" is actually a typo, but we decided to leave it in, as it kind of makes sense. Personally I'm really curious as to what the reaction will be. Basically we're making Qoöl Saturdays very similar to Qoöl, except 1st Saturday night instead of every Wednesday evening. So in that way it's a very simple and straightforward move. But at the same time we're doing a full club night for only $5 - world class talent, much improved sound system, insanely creative visuals, and the best vibe on the planet.
We're still honoring the Q-List of course, but as the venue isn't open as late we're asking Q-Listers to get there before 11:30.
3. Okay, the main thing I wanted to reveal today is that we've signed a deal for our third album. We're going with our longtime friends at Spundae Recordings. Considering that we really wanted to be creatively involved in every step of the release, it's exactly the kind of partnership we were looking for. While we had some interest in some of the material from both Global Underground and Paul Oakenfold, Spundae really came through with a vision for the entire album.
The planned release date is May 04. Ouch! Actually it makes sense if you think about it, we want to release some singles and do extensive pre-promoting. We'll release the first single in October or so.
That's the scoop. And finally, to quote Reid Oda quoting Winston Churchill:
"There are two things in life which are certain. The first is death.
The second is receiving email from DJ Seven."
