impressions from wednesday night

qool

mark plays our remix of rnd()-burn ... it's not eq'd right for a club ... i still have a lot to learn when it comes to mixing down breaks. i have to think about compression in a totally different way. back to the studio for that one.

i have fun dj'ing. i realize i'm playing really hard ... maybe too hard ... it's some blistering techno record. whatever. good to push the crowd a little bit. the dancefloor is packed so i can afford to lose a few if it goes that way.

ok, hard seems fine. everybody's hands are in the air and they're screaming. wait, hameed has his hands in the air and is doing one of his "worship hameed" moves, and that's what everybody is doing. oh well, i'll take hands in the air anyway i can get them.

the new rane is loud. very loud. dave tells me i am clipping. i edge it down. we need that metal plate that idiot proofs this thing. it's just dangerous.

mike hiratzka is having a great time. he seems really impressed by the crowd. he's the only guy i know who seems to have more projects going on than i do. among other things he's joining a band (as a guitar player). luckily i don't have that option. i can use a guitar to make sound, kind of like the way a cat might "play" the piano by walking on the keys.

minna is packed. i really feel thankful that people still enjoy going to qoöl. i know i do. i seem to like it more every year. i seem to like clubbing more every year. it must be the people. after a few years of running into someone in the club scene i start to open up, and i've been clubbing in this town for more than a few years.

beth keeps asking me if i am ok. i realize that although i've had several drinks, i'm pretty tightly wound tonite. beth and ward are working the door and are totally on it, but jackie being gone still makes me nervous ... it's hard to relax.

mezzanine

mezzanine makes guest list peeps wait in line with everyone else. i guess that's fair, but it strikes me as communist.

the door staff are nice though.

lots of people dancing. spesh is playing a track, love and religion, that we want to sign for looq, but we have to find the guy's email address so we can let him know. slightly lame of us that we haven't gotten around to this. to do list item for friday.

i blow a bubble and realize/remember i am chewing bubble gum

i think briefly who among my friends and acquaintences is most like soren kierkegaard. i think it's probably abe. i wonder who kierkegaard could come up with so many brilliant insights even though he rarely left copenhagen. maybe i should visit copenhagen. there was this girl i knew in elementary school named mette who was really nice, and she was danish.

hartaj buys me a jager shot and insists i do it. wow, insta-heartburn. he says he wants to get me so drunk i look like my picture on tribe. hartaj is a great guy, but i avoid him the rest of the night.

james zabiela and his golden locks arrive. spesh is wrapping up. time for me to make a move ... i don't want to be home too late. definitely a zabiela fan, it's just time for me to go. time to start thinking about where i'm going to buy appetizers on thanksgiving day, isn't everything closed? maybe i'll make something ...
