J&S RE-edit Lab

friday's holiday bashing!
i did a 2oz shot of wheatgrass juice this afternoon and though it effectively removed the cumulative effects of too much alcohol over the last couple of days in the space of about fifteen minutes, it also set in motion a strange feeling that i can only describe as my esophagus vibrating ... hmm ... i think i'm going to be ok but i might need to eat some chocolate chip cookies to balance it out or something ... i think my blood is in an extreme alkaline state or something like that and i feel neurologically agitated but that could just be, i don't know, my personality or something.
or it could be a side-effect of watching season 3 of "24" man that show puts me on edge ...
fuck suprnova.org is down, i need to find an alternative. or maybe i'll just bite the bullet and get basic cable, comcast offers it in oakland now.
last nite went to alysoun quinby's birthday party (momu fans would know her as the vocalist on "the dive" ... j&s fans as the vocalist on "back alive" ... she's also featured in a jsj track but her voice got so edited it sounded like howler monkey so i don't know if that one counts) it was great to see her and dave but also a little sad cuz she might move away to go to grad school (anthropology/linguistics) - i hope she ends up going to cal because aly and dave are some of our few eastbay friends and they're incredibly cool and they like sushi and the same movies as us (me and kia that is).
didn't make it to anu though i wanted to catch pia's and hoj's and adam's and tom's sets ... aforementioned tv show on dvd + holiday inertia and overpartying (from friday) set in.
friday: lost tribe presents a holiday bash ... once i managed to deactivate the "useless crap" switch on the back of the pioneer 1000mk2's everything went great. i'm not kidding, there's a switch on the back of those things that makes them absolutely useless ... it deactivates the pitch control, the cue, everything. i think it's actually labeled "dj" vs. "normal" but they might as well call it "functional" vs. "useless crap/make-the-dj-panic setting." managed to find it with my keychain flashlight while spesh was playing (luckily we were tag-teaming). the reason we absolutely needed the cd players to work is because we had recently put in several hours re-editing some tracks that were really cool but totally unplayable due to too-long breakdowns, boring breakdowns, sloppy arrangement, or whatever, so we took matters into our own hands, loaded some stuff into cubase and got busy with the virtual scissors ("fixing progressive one record at a time" - spesh). the most successful edit turned out to be "aconoserme" by ariel g & gabriel marcos, a record with more midi-drift than a windsurfer on the cote d'azur ... the bassline wiggles alongside the kick like two first year acting students doing "the mirror" exercise ... but somehow the whole things works and when we folded the breakdown over on top of itself to shorten and intensify it we got this crazy phasing action from the imprecise timing ... anyway we'll probably use it on the radio show eventually. but the friendly people in santa and reindeer costumes at the lost tribe party really seemed to dig it. thanks jim and matt for booking us - nice one as usual.
