Wandering Around In the Middle of the Night

I often reflect on the analogy of cell specialization to human specialization within society (not that I ascribe to any type of independently conscious social super-organism theory, at least not at this point in our collective evolution) to the extent of what kind of cell would I be ... an immune cell? a muscle cell? a cell in the lining of the small intestine? In other words what kind of phenotypic expression/operational function has my particular genetic makeup + operant conditioning left me best suited for in the lurching beast that is western civilization?

The best answer I can come up with is that I'm a simple RBC. Roving around, picking up a little of this, dropping off a little of that, bouncing off of others, off of walls, careening through corridors both familiar and novel, not really happy unless there is movement, interaction, exchange.

This was the line of my thinking around 3 am Saturday, walking back to my car, (sober, more or less happy) after flitting about town to various parties for no other reasons than to hear music, see people, and possibly expose myself to some kind of novel situation, person, or idea. I can't say I really succeeded on the novelty front, but it's always fun trying.

Momentum at Anu was probably the best part of the evening ... Spesh + Carrelli were having great tag-team chemistry, really going the groovy atmospheric route and it was working. It got my mind all flowy with regard to music ideas (and with the injection of some M83 later in the weekend [thanks to Kia], got me started in the studio on a brand new project, in a new direction). Kevin and Tom and Pia are doing a great job with that party - it's an event I always look forward to.

Which reminds me, I also had a really good time at Freeform on Friday. Didn't actually know that many people there so Jackie and I caught up a bit, and Hoj and Jeffrey Allen played some really ripping tunes.

Sunday I took my mom out to dinner for her birthday at Eccolo in Berkeley, and had some crazy delicious food. The place is a little on the noisy side, but the food was incredible. Got comped for dessert because I knew the manager, he happened to come over to our place one night with Aly & Dave (and drank the rest of our tequila - still gotta make a BevMo run and get some more come to think of it).
