The Perfect Promoter

patty is the *only* jacksonville promoter to give to tsunami relief
I think about an hour into our flight to Jacksonville it occurred to me that I didn't really know much about our gig except that we were playing for Patty from Proton Radio, in Jacksonville Florida. Spesh usually keeps up on these things better than I do so I interrupted his reading of the 9/11 Commission Report to grill him.
J: "What's the name of the club we're playing at?"
S: "I don't know."
J: "What hotel are we staying at?"
S: "No idea."
J: "What's our set time?"
S: "Dunno."
At that point I think we both realized that we trust Patty entirely. The trust was not misplaced - Patty took great care of us and the gig was super fun.
Patty is close to being the perfect promoter. Her qualifications? They include:
-Booking the DJs she thinks are good.
-Ignoring the same old crappy venues in favor of ones that she likes.
-Caring about the sound.
-Writing thank you notes to DJs that play for her (in addition to eleven verbal thank yous)
-Wearing mini skirts to her events.
-Buying drinks for her DJs at an alarming pace.
-Hiring her sister to work the door.
-Becoming a promoter for all the right reasons (Including, "Flying around the country to see my favorite DJs was getting too expensive. Now I just fly them to me!").
In addition to all this Patty and her sister Christy wore wearing sequined "I Heart Jondi" and "I Heart Spesh" shirts. Could it get better?

yes it could, margaritas before the gig with patty and christy!
As you can imagine we played our hearts out and had a great time doing it. The whole night was a blast, with locals Soulkat and Larry Banks rounding out the program. Continuing to hammer away some of the new stuff we've signed for Loöq ... can't wait to share it with the world.

The trip home was a little rough. First we got a cab driver who complained about Jacksonville the whole way to the airport - we didn't mind because he had some good stories like how he'd almost gotten robbed the previous night but he'd just barely managed to avoid using his .38 because the police rolled by, and another story about the delight he felt after passing by an accident on the freeway, the driver's leg flailing out the window of her upside-down car, because that same driver had cut him off on the road earlier. Schadenfreude indeed. He seemed like a good guy actually - he just needed to get out of town. His plan is move to Henderson Nevada and drive a limo, as soon as the Superbowl is over (which is is Jacksonville this year - yeah I didn't know either).
Got to the airport but found out that our stopover in Atlanta was not going to happen due to runway ice. Twelve hours, three planes, and four cities later we got back to SF. Oh the glamour of travel.
New posts on our downloads page: our KISS100 set from John Digweed's show, and another edition of Jondi & Spesh present Loöq Radio.
