Loöq A&R

It's been a busy week, getting ready for WMC in Miami. In addition, we're getting so many music submissions that it's been a real effort to keep on top of them. More and more artists are submitting music via password protected online directories, which is great for the artist (possible to submit to many labels at once with no mailing costs) but harder for us ... we've really got to decide quickly if we want something because it's likely that good stuff will get picked really quickly. On one hand we pride ourselves as label A&R guys to have relatively unique taste ... often we pick stuff that goes rejected by other labels because it's just too strange, quirky, out there, whatever, but on the other hand some tracks are just good, period, and you know that other labels heads are going to jump when they hear them.

By the way ... I'm not complaining ... I love listening to music ... I've just noticed that we have to be really disciplined in order to not miss opportunities. We're attempting to release a record every three weeks this year ... while at the same time putting out only really great tracks (no filler!). We don't want to sign so many tracks that we have a back log of music, but at the same time we don't want to get caught flat-footed like we did at the end of '04, where we went about four months without a release (sorry Loöq fans, that was just totally lame on our part and could have easily been avoided with better planning).
