M83

Thanks Fraser for the M83 tickets. The show was just the kind of mind-tweaking, cathartic experience that I wanted, needed, and expected.

I was curious as to how they would handle the many electronic elements of their music ... would everything be played live from samplers or would there be some kind of digital backing track? It seemed like the latter was the case, but all four guys had plenty to do for most of the tracks, they were whaling on their instruments (esp. the drummer and bassist) throughout, and there were only a few awkward moments where band members stood around awkwardly while sounds from the backing track played.

The machine is invariably the "fifth member" of the band with musical groups that have both rock and electronic elements. It would be cool if that member had a face. I would suggest a hot female android. Why not? She could grab the mic and "sing" old movie samples, electronic percussion, and complex arpeggiated synth lines.
