Yesterday's Recap

Saw a good movie yesterday, a horror tryptych called "Three Extremes." Three short films by Asian directors (one Korean, one Chinese, one Japanese) with similarly twisted and disturbing themes. One of the shorts, "Dumplings," stars the incredibly hot Bai Ling, who I'm sure I've seen in other films but I couldn't place where (could it have been "The Crow"? ... not sure I remember that film so well).

Didn't get into the studio yesterday as I hoped I would but have several sessions planned for next week which is good. Spesh and I will be ramping up production work again ... maybe take a stab at a new single or something.

Didn't have a costume but ended up going out anyway, if anything to escape The Destructobot ... aka Ben Conant, an 18 month old redhead staying with me and Kia at the moment whose method of exploring the world around him involves picking up objects and slamming them into other objects, or climbing on furniture and then jumping off of it and then screaming in pain and disbelief when he hits the ground.

So I took off sans costume, risking the ridicule of my fellow, more spirited, San Francisco clubbing peers. Mostly was let off the hook at Anu, where I danced to the tunes of Jonathan Beech and Scarlett Etienne at Funky Cozy. Stephen Wilson bought me a Lagavulin (very generous, that one) and somehow as the bar closed at 2am I became convinced by Gunita and Sabrina that it would be a good idea to accompany them to Night of the Living, the Opel party at Paradise Lounge. Probably was a good idea in fact, considering I was buzzing from scotch and bourbon.

Despite the apparent non-existence of the "permanent Opel guest list" (I had always doubted the existence of such a thing beyond the confines of Adam's head but hadn't actually investigated until last night) my brilliant non-costume and some degree of memetic recognition allowed me gratis entry. Major props to Adam here because the party was going off and had a great vibe. Even upstairs was bumping, Scott Carrelli in groove-chef mode when I arrived, and aside from the smell of bong hits and a more mysterious pepperoni odor, the experience was aesthetically brilliant. San Franciscans love to dress up, and while some did only slightly better than me by recycling their playa duds, there were some truly balls to the wall, if not original, costumes. The stormtrooper guy looked hot (as in temperature), as did the guy in the fully bunny suit, but sometimes you have to suffer for appearances right? Plenty of eye-candy (asses in fishnets, always nice), wigs (Hoj and Dawn both look great as blondes), and even greaves (link provided for those of you who never played RuneQuest).

Didn't stay super late, as I had told Kia I was only going to pop out for one drink. Walked ten blocks back to my car because I needed the air.

Oh by the way this is a picture that Kia took, my reflection in the television while we were watching Battlestar Galactica. Kind of funny, if you take into account my extropian tendencies.
