Pope Benedict XVI believes Christmas has been "polluted by consumerism." Nobody seems to be complaining that a perfectly good pagan holiday has been polluted by monotheism. In any event, I'm all for the creation, acquisition, appreciation, and appropriate recycling of human-made art and artifacts as long as old growth trees don't have to be chopped down, and the polar bears still have ice to skate on. Are you with me?
