Funding the Temple
Hello from Southwest Terminal 22. Heading to LA for a few days. Last night I played the Opulent Temple fund-raiser at Mezzanine with Spesh. My dad, who is on the qoolsf mailing list, emailed me to ask: "I must know ... why does the Opulent Temple of Burning Man need a fund-raiser?" I didn't have a good answer for him. I will link to this clip though, that you may find entertaining if you have ever been involved in the planning process for a Burning Man camp.

The gig was fun. I opened with the Yellowcake track "I Stole Your X-Box" (Yelowcake is my new solo alias). Played a Dirtybird track, then tested out the new Slow Poke track "Frog Man." Kevin Knapp (the other half of Slow Poke) and I are going back and forth on which of two nearly identical mixes of Frog Man is the superior one. I will note that the mix I prefer sounded incredible last night, but I don't think the Opulent Temple crowd last was quite ready for that cutting-edge minimal techno vibe quite yet. Except for two dudes right up front, who were loving it. Tech-NO!

Spesh played some super groovy stuff, and when I got back on I wasted no time in testing out the new Jondi & Spesh groove "One Pound of Track." The mastering needs a little work - too crunchy and cripsy during the peak section, but otherwise I'm pleased with it. I'll post samples soon of all the tracks mentioned.

I *think* we donated our time last night, to the Opulent Temple. At least, nobody handed me a stack of bills at the end of night.
Congrats to Fred Funk, who played before us, who is going to be a dad soon. Also learned that Felix the Dog, who played after us, has knocked up his lady (at least I think that's what he said - one can never be too sure in a loud club). So congratulations are due there as well (unless he said the cops knocked down his door, or he's got a new record on the way). A recent picture of my Tesla Rose is below. Something's in the water I guess (and apparently bass frequencies don't kill sperm).
