RIP Stillwind

Some sad news to report. Our pal Stillwind Borenstein passed away last month. He died suddenly from a heart problem (after narrowly escaping death from the same problem last year). He worked for Konami, and was the guy responsible for signing all the songs we've done for the Dance Dance Revolution games. He introduced us to an entirely new (to us) genre of music. What to call it ... dance-pad techno? The style really was a thing unto itself, incredibly complex and syncopated, often bizarrely fast. Fun stuff. Whenever we would turn in a draft of a track to Stillwind he would kick it back with the same notes: "more hectic."

A few years ago he visited San Francisco (he was living and working in Hawaii at the time) and we went clubbing together. It was one of those nights where we kept meeting stranger and stranger denizens of the City. I got to know Stillwind a little better that night and learned about his history as a DJ in the early SF underground, playing at warehouse raves back in the day. Spesh and I were just starting to put out records with Trip 'n Spin then -- early nineties.

So -- respect to Stillwind. We only knew him as an acquaintance, but will miss him nonetheless.
